Safety Thirst - safer drinking in the City
The City of London CDRP
The overriding aim of our City of London Crime and Disorder
Reduction Partnership (CDRP) is to reduce the level of crime,
disorder, antisocial behaviour and substance use in the Square
Mile.
Whilst striving towards the overriding strategic aim, we
will:
- Reduce the fear of crime by providing information to the
community to ensure that it continues to understand that there are
low levels of crime in the City.
- Promote and pursue flexible, integrated and focused approaches
to tackling crime in the City.
- Further enhance the depth and breadth of partnership working
across the area of Community Safety.
The City of London CDRP was established as a result of the 1998
Crime and Disorder Act. It embraces numerous partners
including:
- Residents Groups
- Business Associations
- The City of London
- The City of London Police
- The City and Hackney Primary Health Care Trust
- Probation Service
- British Transport Police
- London Fire Brigade
- Police Authority
- Crime Prevention Associations
In May 2005 the City of London CDRP produced its strategy
for 2005 to 2008. This Crime and Disorder strategy contains
priorities which are included within the Safer City theme of
The City
Together: A Vision for a World Class City (the Community
Strategy). This is the overarching strategic document setting out
the vision of all aspects of public and voluntary sector related
services in the City of London. The City of London CDRP Steering
Group monitors the Crime and Disorder Reduction Strategy and has
agreed to monitor in addition those aspects of safety which are
outside this remit, but included in
The City
Together: A Vision for a World Class City.
Progess so far
That the City remains a safe place in which to live, visit and
do business, is a source of great pride to those of us charged with
its safety and wellbeing. As the world at large changes and the
City of London continues to develop to meet the needs of its
community, methods of crime reduction must advance with it to
protect all those elements that make this such an attractive and
important place.
There has been considerable progress on reducing crime and
disorder in the City of London over past three years. Overall crime
in the City has been reduced by 9% since the last audit in 2001 and
on the CDRP priorities areas by considerably more. Alongside this,
the development of partnership working has yielded a far greater
return than the sum of the parts committed to it. This partnership
working has been a substantial asset, and its continued development
will remain a major priority.
