Queen's Park

Flower beds in Queens ParkSite of the 1879 Royal Agricultural Exhibition, the 30 acre Queen's Park has been owned and managed by the City of London since 1886.

It has been named a Green Flag Park for more than ten years running, in recognition of the quality of its services and environment.

It provides a welcome splash of green in one of the most densely populated parts of London, serving the residents of the London Borough of Brent in which it is located, as well as residents from several neighbouring boroughs. Facilities include six all-weather tennis courts, a pitch-and-putt course, a pétanque pitch, an ornamental garden, a children's playground with paddling pool, and a cafe.

Queen's Park - have your say!

Greenstat logoA website http://www.greenstat.org.uk/ has been set up to record feedback and provide local residents with the opportunity to comment on how open spaces nationwide are managed and maintained. The City of London will be able to access this information and compare results on Queen's Park with other open spaces up and down the country.

We would very much welcome your involvement. Please visit http://www.greenstat.org.uk/ and click on the London region, where you will then see a list of organisations – please chose ‘City of London' which is conveniently located at the very top of the page. You will then be asked to select whether you wish to comment on the Service provided by City of London, or to comment on a specific Open Space. If you select option 2 ‘Park or Open Space' you will be given a list of City of London open spaces to comment on – please select ‘Queen's Park' from this list and you will then be taken through an online survey.

Gardeners in Queens ParkQueen's Park takes part in urban bloom experiment

Queen's Park has been selected to participate in a research project by Sheffield University and the Royal Horticultural Society to find the best wildflower mixes for urban areas.

Five small areas in the park have been identified as suitable plots on which to carry out the experiment, which will run for five years. Over that time the university's renowned Department of Landscape will sow a variety of wildflower seeds to create perennial meadows. These will provide greater flower diversity, a much longer flowering season and a richer ecosystem by attracting a wider range of insects than currently exists.
