Starting a business

We have a wide range of online electronic and printed sources to help new entrepreneurs. We also run many events and training sessions aimed at supporting business people. You do not have to be a member of the City of London libraries to use the library or attend the events.

Setting up and running your business

One of our most useful sources is the COBRA, Complete Business Reference Adviser, also available in printed format. This is a collection of over 300 guidelines on how to set up different kinds of businesses, anything from an air conditioning engineer to a speciality cake maker. COBRA is now adding many ethical, Fairtrade and sustainable enterprises, for example, ethical holiday organiser, organic food retailer and farm shops. COBRA also has a set of factsheets designed to help you run your business. These include writing a business plan, legal considerations, financial issues and human resources. This source has the added advantage of being available on your desktop through the City of London website for library members.
