Angels in the City is a new initiative supported by the City of London Corporation as part of its commitment to support enterprise and small businesses both in the City and its neighbouring boroughs. Angels in the City aims to increase the awareness of individuals to become angel investors and to bring their financial capacity and business experience to invest in innovative high growth potential entrepreneurs in the City fringes, including in the ‘Tech City’ area. The City of London Corporation is working with London Business Angels, the oldest and most established angel group in London to deliver this programme.
Investing in City Fringe Entrepreneurs
The Square Mile is a world leading financial centre. High Net Worth Individuals working in the City have the potential to become angel investors, drawing on their financial capacity and extensive business experience to provide investment into high growth potential City fringe businesses. A significant number of entrepreneurs in the City fringe areas are involved in innovative business developments, including technology and digital media. This includes the ‘Tech City’ cluster centred on the so-called Silicon Roundabout in the Shoreditch-Old Street area, a key hub of digital technology and media businesses which has recently having gained the attention of the Government.
Importance of Business Angel Investing
Business Angels not only bring much needed financial resources, but also bring business skills experience, market contacts, strategic advice , thereby significantly increasing the potential of the investee company to achieve success.
Opportunities to participate in Angels in the City
Angels in the City is designed to assist individuals working in the City of London to gain an understanding of the opportunities of Angel Investing, the risks and rewards, including hearing more about the considerable tax benefits currently available and how to get involved. This will be offered through a rolling programme of awareness events and more detailed workshops focusing on the technical aspects of angel investing, including tips from experienced angel investors. At the same time opportunities will be offered to attend dedicated pitching events in the City to meet selected high growth potential innovating businesses from the City fringe areas and notably Tech City. There is no charge for any company pitching for Angel investment under the Angels in the City programme.
