City Climate Pledge

The City of London Corporation was approached by a number of City based institutions and asked to develop a programme that would enable them to demonstrate their commitment to tackling climate change. In response, we have developed the City Climate Pledge.

The City Climate Pledge is a new initiative by the City of London Corporation, in partnership with Pure the Clean Planet Trust and BRE, which aims to encourage firms to take a responsible attitude to managing their carbon emissions.

The firms who sign up to the pledge have agreed to measure their carbon footprints, and to manage them through energy efficiency measures. Our partner BRE can provide advice and guidance to improve energy efficiency and make greater use of energy-efficient techniques.

Signatories to the pledge have also agreed to offset a proportion of their unavoidable emissions in accordance with the UK Government’s proposed Code of Best Practice for Carbon Offsetting. Our partner Pure The clean planet trust can provide offsetting that meets the standards set out in the Code of best practice.

All signatories to the pledge have agreed to publish their carbon footprints and to monitor and report on progress in reducing and offsetting them.
