Opened in 1982, this general lending library has a stock of over 42,000 volumes, 2,000 videos and 4,500 music CDs. The library also stocks a great choice of DVDs from the latest releases and classics to boxsets of popular TV series. Whilst aiming at a good general subject coverage, there are also small collections of children's books, books in large print, foreign fiction and some spoken word recordings including language courses. Basic sources of information are also available as well as a self-service photocopier.

Children's events

Children under five are well catered for with Rhyme Time sessions on Tuesday mornings from 10.30am to 11.00am.

Reading Groups

Shoe Lane Library has two reading groups which both meet once a month for an hour; Tuesday evenings at 5.30pm and Thursday lunchtimes at 1.00pm. New members are always welcome to join, please contact the Library in advance to confirm the date of the next meeting.

The Library is fully accessible for people with disabilities.
