Crossrail and the City

The City has always been easy to get to and easy to get around but with significant projected growth in its workforce and in visitor numbers, it needs to look to the future and ensure that its transport links continue to provide the efficient and effective level of service enjoyed today.

In comes Crossrail – a project that the City of London Corporation has actively supported for over 20 years. The scheme will see a new high-frequency railway under central London linking Maidenhead in the west with Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east and taking in Paddington, the West End and the City along the way. There will also be a direct link to Heathrow.

With 24 trains in each direction per hour during peak times, a capacity double that of the Jubilee Line, and stations at Farringdon and Liverpool Street in the City, the advent of Crossrail means the City couldn’t be better connected.

It is anticipated that the first train will run on the railway in 2017 and the service will be built up over the following 12 months.
