Guildhall for Functions
and Meetings
The City of London has been governed from the
area of Guildhall for over 800 years, although it is unclear for
exactly how long a building known as Guildhall has occupied the
site. Archaeological evidence indicates that a hall of some size
or shape has existed since at least the late thirteenth century.
It is thought that the Western part of the Crypt dates from that
period, when it was the undercroft of a smaller hall, which in
itself was probably not the first to be built there.
In certain instances Guildhall can be made available
for private banquets, receptions or conferences. The available
areas are the Great Hall, the Crypt, the Old Library, the Print
Room, the Livery Hall, Guildhall Art Gallery and, occasionally,
Guildhall Yard. As Guildhall is a Grade I listed building, such
outside use is quite limited and permission is not granted lightly. |
