New grave re-use area

Heritage Area

Grave re-use

It has become necessary, if we are to continue to offer the option of burial to families, to make full use of all available burial space within the Cemetery.

There are many graves within the Cemetery that have either never been used since they were purchased, or in other cases have not been used for 75 years or more.

We have selected an area within the Cemetery that we are calling the “Heritage Area” in which we intend to extinguish the rights of burial, remove memorials, increase the space for burials, and re-use the graves. The City of London Corporation may do this in accordance with Section 6 of the City of London (Various Powers) Act 1969 and Section 74 of the London Local Authorities Act 2007. These graves are located in squares 18, 19, 20, 22, 31, 35, 36, 42 and 46, and will be marked accordingly within the cemetery grounds.

You can download the City of London Cemetery Official Public Notice (16.7 KB) and a copy of
The London Local Authorities Act 2007 (75.7KB) here.
