Further information about the opening times and contact details (if available) for these venues can be found below.

So whether you're looking for a luxurious three course meal or a family home-made picnic with a cold drink from the kiosk, there is somewhere for everyone at Epping Forest.

Butler's Retreat

Butler’s Retreat, near The View and Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge, is open from 9am to 5pm during the week and is now open until 8pm on Saturdays and Sundays until October.

It is situated at 12 Rangers Road, Chingford, E4 7QH, Tel 020 7998 7858.

Butler's Retreat offers high quality refreshments and is managed by The Larder

On Saturdays and Sundays, the hot food on the lunch menu finishes at 4pm and is replaced by the Sharing Menu (181 KB). On warm summer evenings, a delicious sharing plate or some tasty snacks from this tantalising selection, with a glass of wine or beer could be the perfect way to end your day out in the forest.

Butler’s Retreat dates from the 19th century and was originally built as a barn. It is the last remaining working ‘retreat’ or traditional refreshment centre for visitors to the forest. Local entrepreneurs set up Retreats across the forest from 1878 to cater for the hundreds of thousands of Epping Forest visitors and competed for custom with added attractions such as donkey rides and fun fair rides.

Refreshment kiosk, Wanstead Park

There is a refreshment kiosk in Wanstead Park, overlooking the Heronry Pond.

The kiosk is open every Saturday and Sunday throughout the year, as well as seven days a week from mid-March to mid-September and during the February and October half terms.

The opening times are 9am to approximately 6pm.

Tea huts at High Beach

Carl’s Tea Hut is located on the Pillow Mounds car park and is open from 10am to 4pm in the winter and from 10am to 5pm in the summer.

Min’s Tea Hut, sometimes referred to as ‘The Biker’s Tea Hut’, due to its popularity with motorcyclists, is located on the road to High Beach, just off of the Robin Hood Roundabout. The Tea Hut is open from 9am to dusk every day of the year.
