  • Lord Mayor 2016-17
    Lord Mayor Andrew Parmley
    Andrew Parmley

Alderman Dr Andrew Parmley

Dr Andrew Parmley is the 689th Lord Mayor. He has been a teacher for over 30 years, during which time he has built an unparalleled understanding of how education can promote social mobility, encourage economic development and generate prosperity.

During his year as Lord Mayor, Alderman Parmley will promote the UK’s exceptional financial and professional services that range from banking and law to engineering and advertising. In particular, he will reinforce the message that those services can be vital participants in healthy, wealthy and sustainable communities, not just in large cities but across a country’s entire economy. He will take this message overseas, leading business delegations to explore opportunities in existing and emerging markets.

The Lord Mayor’s regional work is equally important. Alderman Parmley was born in Manchester and grew up in Blackpool, and he wants to use his year in office to highlight the immense and often under-appreciated contribution that communities outside London play in the UK’s commercial development.

A big part of the Lord Mayor’s job is his Appeal, run under the motto ‘Educate, Support, Inspire'.
