Can I apply for a membership?

Membership is open to anyone over the age of 16.

Membership is open to UK residents only.

Membership is for individuals only, we do not offer corporate membership.

How do I become a Member?

To become a member, please visit our Membership page. Alternatively, you can join in person by visiting the City Business Library.

How long does it take to receive my membership card?

We aim to process your application within 2 working days. We will then post your card using Royal Mail. You can also receive your card in person if you come into the Library with proof of your address, eg a driving licence or recent utility bill.

Your card will become active the first time you use it.

How do I log into a database?

We have user guides on how to use each of the databases. For further information please see remote access to databases on our website.

Can I download the data?

You can download data from each of the remote access databases, but it must be within the Copyright Law.

Itemised copyright limits: Fame, a list of 100 companies per day or five full reports; MarketLine, 5% per report; COBRA, 5% per report; European Newsstream / Business Source Premier, 1 article or 10% of an issue whichever is the smallest amount; Law & Business, 10% per entry; IBIS World, 5% per report. What can I do with the data?

All data that is downloaded or printed is for personal use only. You must not sell or share the data. If you sell or share the data, your subscription will be cancelled without any refund.

If you quote from a database, eg, for a business plan, you must site the source.

I cannot find my card, what should I do?

Please let us know as soon as possible if your card is lost or stolen, so that we can cancel the membership card number. A replacement card can be sent to you by post, or collected at the Library, for a fee of £2.00

How do I renew my Membership?

You can renew your membership by logging into your Join It account and clicking dashboard where you will find your subscription details. Alternatively, you may email us.

How do I cancel my paid Membership?

You have a right to cancel your membership within 30 days of subscribing on the condition that you have not used any benefits, which includes accessing any of the databases remotely. You will be charged an administration fee for cancellation.

Can I still use the Library if my paid Membership has expired?

Yes, you can. If you no longer require paid Membership, you can move to our free Access Membership, which will allow you to use some of our remote databases and library services.

Do I have to provide my contact details?

When you subscribe to any of our memberships, free or paid, you must provide us with complete and accurate contact information. Some of the database providers will require your email address as well as your membership number to enable you to have access to their database. This is the only time they will use your email address and will not pass it on to any 3rd party. They are all GDPR compliant.

I have changed my contact details; how do I update them?

You can change your contact details by logging into your Join It account. Click on Account Settings, then Update Information. Alternatively, you may email us providing your Library Card ID number together with your name and updated contact details.
