Commonwealth business forum

The City of London Corporation partnered with the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council to co-host the Commonwealth Business Forum (CBF) from 16-18 April 2018.

The 11th Business Forum, took place ahead of the 25th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, convening over 1400 senior business delegates representing, businesses, regulators, trade and investment promotion bodies, and governments from almost all the nations of the Commonwealth. This was a unique platform for dialogue and engagement across industries and economies.

Not only was this a unique and historic opportunity to promote and celebrate the very best of the Commonwealth to a global audience but it provided opportunity to debate core issues facing their countries in 2018 and beyond.

This landmark event brought together business and governments to address how the private and public sectors can cooperate to support the Commonwealth’s ambitious growth objectives – growth and economic prosperity for all. With 40 thematic sessions, nearly 300 speakers and guests from the four corners of the Commonwealth – session focussed on six core themes:

  • Accessing modern financial services
  • Easing the pathways for business and growth
  • Harnessing Commonwealth Technology and Innovation
  • Creating a new attitude to sustainable business
  • Mobilising an export economy
  • Attracting inward investment

Outcomes

Launch of the Commonwealth Standards Network from BSI. The network seeks to maximise the benefits of international standards as a means of facilitating intra-Commonwealth trade.

Launch of the London: A Global Marketplace for Infrastructure solutions report outlining the role and potential of the City of London as a global hub for infrastructure investment.

Following the CBF, The City of London Corporation’s research team will produce a report on the importance of multilateral trade and investment links across the Commonwealth, informed by discussions and interviews with selected Commonwealth Business Forum attendees. The report will showcase the role of the Commonwealth in generating growth and prosperity for its members.
