The City Business Library

The leading public library in the UK for business information, the City Business Library (CBL) is a vital resource for anyone starting or growing a business. It offers business advice, free access to databases of business information and a wide range of free-of-charge business skills training and development events. It also publishes a series of factsheets, including one on starting your own business, to point you to further information and resources; this is available to download from the CBL's information sheets page.

Support for financial and professional services setting up in the City

The City of London provides free of charge support to foreign financial and related business services companies, helping them to set up and grow their business in the Square Mile.

Property advice

The City of London's City Property Advisory Team provide a confidential, free service to help businesses of all sizes find suitable premises for their requirements in the City and its neighbouring boroughs.

British Library Business & IP Centre

The British Library Business and Intellectual Property Centre (BIPC) provides business and intellectual property advice to businesses and entrepreneurs, including advice on protecting your ideas.

GOV.UK

The GOV.UK portal (which replaces the Businesslink website), offers general support and advice on setting up a business, as well as guidance on how to access Government services and resources.

Local enterprise agencies

A local enterprise support organisation can offer support in developing your idea for a business ideas or help you get your business established or grow. Capital Enterprise offers a directory of providers of business advice to new businesses and entrepreneurs in London.

HM Revenues and Customs

The HMRC website offers advice on what you need to do when you start a business, including tax and National Insurance and information about the resources and support offered to new businesses by the Government. ​
