City of London & India

The City of London manages a dedicated programme of engagement with India, facilitated through our representative office in Mumbai.

The aim of our India programme is to promote the interests of UK-based financial services in India and Indian firms who want to do business in the UK. Through dialogue and engagement between industry and government we strengthen the business links between our two countries.

Our well-established presence in the UK and overseas allows us to offer connections into firms, policymakers, regulators and other stakeholders, as well as involvement in tailor-made events and work programmes.

The City of London Advisory Council for India was established in 2007 to guide the City's engagement with India. It meets annually in Mumbai and London to review progress in financial services reform in India, discuss work on the City's priority areas over the preceding months and establish new areas of focus.

Our current areas of focus include:

  • The development of the Indian credit market
  • International use of the rupee
  • Insurance and reinsurance development
  • promotion of two way investment opportunities for the UK and India.

Alongside a wide range of policy and promotional activity, the representative office in Mumbai produces a weekly news monitor of financial services news and market developments.
