We run a variety of projects to support young people who study in the City's neighbouring boroughs to access work placements.

The City of London Business Traineeship

The award-winning City of London Business Traineeship programme builds links between City employers and state-educated, talented young people.

The City of London Business Traineeship (CBT) programme recruits state-educated, high-achieving and motivated students who study in the City's neighbouring boroughs, giving them a chance to compete for paid internships each year.

The programme opens doors for many young people who may not otherwise have the means or opportunity to access a career in the City.

Students have the opportunity to:

  • participate in a series of CV, interview and sector-specific workshops
  • attend interviews with prospective firms
  • if selected, carry out a 6-13 week paid placement with a City firm

The programme aims to

  • Support young people from the City neighbouring boroughs to gain employment experience and build networks with the City
  • Enable City firms to build links with their local communities
  • Provide City businesses with a talent pipeline
  • Promote workplace diversity

The City of London Corporation has been working in partnership with The Brokerage Citylink, to deliver the programme since 2000.  In the past 17 years, over 1,350 young people have benefited from paid internships with around 100 of the Square Mile's most prestigious businesses and institutions.

  • business and finance seminars
  • visits to City firms
