In 1941 utility clothing was introduced and in 1943 the Utility Furniture Advisory Committee published the Utility Furniture Catalogue. These responses to shortages of raw materials met practical needs but also inspired and influenced new design ideas.

Exploring this knowledge places flesh on dead bones, puts words in dead mouths, and helps us understand that most dramatic moment when a defendant emerged from the cells to a trial that could lead to exile, death or imprisonment.     London County Council Tramways colour posters first appeared in 1923. Some suggested ideas for day trips in London (to London Zoo, parks and gardens, the Thames, museums and galleries), while others advertised sporting venues (football and cricket), Christmas shopping and promoted late night cheap travel. In 1933, the final posters were produced. Among them were warnings for passengers to take care when alighting. Drop in to view a charming slice of design and social history.
