Prior to the start of construction work on the new Guildhall Art Gallery in 1988, archaeologists were expecting a fairly routine excavation. However, they made one of the most significant archaeological finds in London for over a century – the discovery of the Roman Amphitheatre.

Join Education Officer Andrew Lane, in the Basinghall Suite at Guildhall Art Gallery, for an interesting talk about the discovery of the Roman Amphitheatre. At this talk, part of the Totally Thames Festival 2022, you'll hear about the history of the site and the staging of the games through a selection of archaeological finds from the amphitheatre.
