    John Wilkes, radical politician, was imprisoned by the King's Bench on 10 May 1768, for sedition and libel. Wilkes supporters protested. Troops opened fire, killing seven people in what came to be known as the St George's Fields Massacre. This talk explores Wilkes’ political career 250 years after this terrible event.

    The souvenir of wealthy travellers, mummified cadavers of ancient Egyptians were not confined merely to museums but became a popular feature of salons and lecture theatres throughout London during the mid-nineteenth century. This lecture places the practice within its social, cultural and historical contexts, as a fascinating example of forgotten London.
