Born in India, painter/printmaker Susan Sands' attachment to and interest in the country of her birth is renewed by regular visits, particularly to a village school in Tamil Nadu where, sketchbook in hand, and is able to record rural life at the simplest level. Her work draws from the whole spectrum of images that India represents, fascinated by the wildlife, the richness of the decorative art, but perhaps principally by the people themselves.
