What it's like to work here

John Barradell, the Town Clerk

John Barradell, Town Clerk and Chief Executive

Welcome from the Town Clerk

Thank you for considering an application to work at the City of London Corporation.

The City Corporation is responsible for services to the financial and commercial heart of Britain, one of the most significant concentrations of economic activity in the world.

Over 800 years old, the Corporation’s diverse range of services include maintaining the Barbican Centre, the Old Bailey, 10,000 acres of open space, the City of London Police, and a major grant-giving charitable trust, while also delivering modern local government services to the Square Mile and beyond.

I wish you the best of luck with your application.

In their own words...

Daniel, graduate scheme

“The greatest strength of working in the City Corporation is the versatility of the scheme and the chance to work in a centuries-old organisation that encompasses the best of the public, private and third sectors.

“I believe that if you want to develop your career and you are passionate about people, the City and Greater London, then working for the City of London Corporation provides a great platform to do that.”

Grace, apprentice

“When I saw the advert for apprentices I knew that it would be perfect for me as I am a hands on learner and coursework is also a good option for me. I would 100% recommend an apprenticeship as it has given me the qualifications and experience I would never have had the chance to do through a college programme or degree. I was learning on the job whilst making money for myself which made me more self-sufficient. The work is always very relevant to the course and this makes the coursework a lot easier as the information is always at hand. I made new friends and colleagues and learnt a lot from their skills and experience.”
