What is an apprenticeship?
An apprenticeship is a mix of real work and learning. Apprentices earn a wage and get experience whilst working towards a number of qualifications. The City of London currently offers apprenticeships at intermediate level and advanced level.​

How do I know if I am eligible for the programme?
To be eligible to become an apprentice you must be aged over 16, living in England, not currently in full-time education or holding a university degree. As with any job individual apprenticeship positions have different requirements in terms of aptitude, skills, qualifications and experience. The most important aspects however are enthusiasm, commitment, and initiative.​

Traineeship opportunities in Open Spaces

Our Open Spaces department, in conjunction with the City of London Adult Skills and Education Service, is piloting an eight-week programme for young people interested in a career working outdoors.

  • Week 1 is focused around an introduction to the staff and City of London Open Spaces sites, as well as supporting the departments administration team
  • Week 2 looks at supporting and understanding the role of the Learning Team across the city’s open spaces
  • Week 3 will include working with the Sports, Recreation and leisure teams
  • Week 4 will focus on the Conservation and Ecology aspects of the Open Spaces
  • Week 5 will be working with the wider Horticulture Team
  • Week 6 - 8 will be focussing on job readiness, job searches and applications and completing the requirements of the employability qualification

Young people will required to attend three days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) with Tuesday morning reserved for tutor sessions. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain some work experience and for those who are considering an apprenticeship as well as gaining a Level 1 award in Employability skills and Functional skills (if required).
