Building Control

Our service

We are here to help you comply with your legal obligations, by being a friendly, constructive and valuable member of your team.

The City has been in existence for over 800 years, ever reliable and here when you need us. No need for you to employ building control consultants, we will advise you every step of the project.

We have over 400 years of combined experience and are experts in projects large and small. Our team includes professionally qualified surveyors, building engineers, MEP engineers and fire engineers, and we use that expertise to help de-risk your project. Many of our staff sit on industry committees and standards drafting boards, and so are at the cutting edge of current thinking.

We have a dedicated area of the website where you can download application forms, make an online application and access a wealth of information about our services and staff.

We are members of LABC, a network of over 3000 building control professionals, upon whom we can call upon for support as necessary to suit your project.

Here are some of the things we offer:

Free Pre-application advice

  •
    Pre application advice meeting

Help us to remove risk at the earliest stages of a project, by engaging with us at the earliest stages. We will help to identify key areas for you to consider and we do this at no cost if the project stays with us. Our intimate knowledge of the City’s buildings will help you at this stage.

Dedicated project surveyor

  •
    Our staff

You will be allocated a dedicated contact who will ensure that your project is dealt with efficiently. We will give you their direct contact details and they will be supported by specialist members of our team.

Cross boundary working

We have the ability to contribute to projects across England by working in partnership with the Local Authority, or sometimes, by dealing with the whole project ourselves.

CPD and Training

  •
    Pile Inspection

We can offer you CPD sessions or training on aspects of Building Regulations. Please contact us if we can assist and we will tailor something to your needs.

On 17 May 2018, Dame Judith Hackitt published her review into Building Regulations following the events at Grenfell Tower.

The government has accepted this report and it will result in some fundamental changes to the industry.

The report is at the Independent Review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety: Final Report

The City District Surveyors office has prepared Continuing Professional Development materials on the subject, and on the Dec 2018 changes to Part B.

if you would like us to give you some training, if you have any questions on the impact the report may have on your work, please contact Mark Pundsack .

Fire risk assessments

  •
    Fire Risk assesments

We have FRACS accredited fire risk assessors who can complete fire risk assessments for your building. Please contact us if we can assist.
