Description

Now known as 60 London this 9 storey office building is in the western end of the City of London. It was developed by AXA Real Estate with Kohn Pedersen Fox (KPF) and Balfour Beatty. It included the construction of a new gatehouse for the Holborn Viaduct in natural stonework to match the existing three on the corners of the bridge. The gatehouse contrasts vividly with the curved glazed enclosure of the new office building. Remedial works were also carried out to the bridge by Balfour Beatty on behalf of the City of London Corporation.

The base build construction works were successfully completed and won the LABC Building Excellence award for Best Large Commercial Building 2014.

Our role

We carried out all the building control functions on this development. A particular issue that arose during the project were related to external fire spread. We worked with Balfour Beatty and fire engineers Grontmij to find a solution which met the developer's needs for the façade while at the same time satisfying Building Regulations.

If you are considering constructing a new building or undertaking alterations to an existing building, we should be happy to assist you with any Building Regulation queries you may have and offer free pre-application advice. Please call 020 7332 1000 or email the District Surveyor's Office.
