The Open Space Strategy sets out how we will protect and enhance the gardens in the City and create more spaces. It guides the management and planning of open spaces.

The Strategy was adopted in January 2015 as a supplementary planning document.

We carried out an Open Spaces Audit (3MB) to inform the preparation of the Open Space Strategy. The audit gives detailed information about the number, distribution and quality of the City’s open spaces.

Historic open spaces 

Historic England's Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of special historic interest in England identifies over 1,600 sites assessed to be of national importance. The City of London has four registered parks and gardens within its boundary:

Our Biodiversity Action Plan sets out measures to encourage wildlife in open spaces and throughout the City.
