The junction at the heart of the City

The City's famous junction has landmark buildings such as the Royal Exchange, Bank of England and the Mansion House, as well as a wider, quintessentially City network of historic streets, courtyards and alleyways.

Conservation area boundary and guidance

View the Bank conservation area boundary by using the 'Conservation' tab on the City of London interactive map.

For detailed information and guidance on the Bank conservation area, open the Bank Character Summary and Management Strategy SPD (4MB). Adopted on 31 January 2012, it sets out the character, significance and policy context for the area.

The Bank junction safety scheme, closing the junction to most traffic, allows the rich architecture and sense of place that underpins the conservation area to be better appreciated.
