Barbican and Golden Lane

Pioneering post-war estates

The Barbican and Golden Lane estates are among the most architecturally significant post-war housing estates in the country. Golden Lane was built between 1953 and 1962 and the Barbican between 1963 and 1982. Both estates offer a remarkably sustained and immersive experience of 20th century architecture and planning.

Conservation area guidance

The Barbican and Golden Lane Conservation Area was designated on 31 October 2018. A Character Summary and Management Strategy Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) for the Conservation Area is currently being prepared.
