Foster Lane Conservation Area [No. 10]

This small, linear area is based on medieval Foster Lane comprising gently curving streets, alleyways and open spaces with an intimate scale. ​

The Foster Lane Conservation Area Character Summary and Management Strategy SPD (2KB) was adopted on 14 July 2015. This document analyses the significance of the conservation area and sets out relevant policies for its preservation and enhancement.

History and character summary

  • A concentration of Livery Halls, reflecting a use unique to the City
  • Massing, rhythm, material and architectural detailing reflecting the neo-classical style that is a vital element of the City's character
  • An intimacy of scale maintained by the relationship of a narrow street plan with open spaces and buildings respecting it.
