Paying for planning applications

The majority of planning applications require a fee and cannot be made valid until the correct amount has been received. The amount varies depending on the type and scale of development you are planning to carry out. Guidance on the fees scale is on the DCLG website. There is a guide to the fees (100KB) for planning applications in England and the Planning Portal also has a fee calculator tool.

Payment options

You can pay online. Please note: you will need either the Planning Portal reference number or the application reference number.

By cheque

Please make cheques payable to "City of London" and send them to:

The Department of the Built Environment
City of London
PO Box 270

If sending through the post, mark them for the attention of the case officer (if known) and write the site address and planning portal number (if applicable) on the back.
