Waste collection in the City is organised on an Estate or private residency basis by Amey. Go to the relevant section below for information that is applicable to you.

A bulky waste service is provided to all residents, charges may apply.

Barbican

Please tie your sacks and put them in your refuse cupboard for collection before 8am. Amey collects the waste sacks Monday-Friday.

There are household waste bins in your nearest car park. The bins will normally have a red lid with the household waste icon featured above.​

Golden Lane Estate

​A chute is provided for your household waste. Please tie your bag before putting it in the chute.

Amey collects the waste sacks Monday-Friday.

Please ensure you only put household waste in the chute and no large or very heavy items, such as large pieces of cardboard, umbrellas, construction materials or rubble are put in the chute.

Mansell Street Estate

​Please do not leave rubbish on the ground in front of the bins.

A chute is provided for your household waste. Please tie your bag before putting it in the chute.

Amey collects the waste sacks Monday-Friday.

Please ensure you only put household waste in the chute and no large or very heavy items, such as large pieces of cardboard, umbrellas, construction materials or rubble are put in the chute.

If you have a ground floor flat you can store waste bags in the waste cupboard for collection or put your bags in the household waste bins near Entrance 1 of Guinness Court.

The bins will normally have a red lid with the household waste icon featured above.

Middlesex Street Estate

​A chute is provided for your household waste. Please tie your bag before putting it in the chute.

Amey collects the waste sacks Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Please ensure you only put household waste in the chute and no large or very heavy items, such as large pieces of cardboard, umbrellas, construction materials or rubble are put in the chute.

There are more bins in the car park next to the recycling point. 

Household waste bins will normally have a red lid with the household waste icon featured above.

Private properties with bin storage

Waste is collected Monday-Friday​.

If your privately managed block of flats has a bin store or refuse chamber you should use the facility to dispose of your waste.

If you have an enquiry about your household waste collection service please contact us using the online form or call 020 7606 3110. We aim to respond to comments within three working days.​

Private properties without bin storage

If you are a private resident without a bin store or refuse chamber you will have a kerbside collection.

The City of London Corporation provides household waste sacks, which are white with a red stripe, for residents using a kerbside collection. These sacks are for rubbish that cannot be recycled.

Please tie your sack and put it out on the street between 6.30pm-7.30pm, Monday to Saturday. This time complies with the Time Banding scheme. Go to the Time Banding page for more information. If you miss the  specified waste and recycling  time slot you must store your rubbish bags off the street until the next scheduled collection. There are no collections on Sundays or Bank Holidays.

Sacks are delivered every six months. To order sacks between deliveries, please call 020 7606 3110.

Your responsibility

You must only use the sacks provided by the City of London for your refuse and recycling. Please do not put any other sack, e.g. black sacks or plastic carrier bags, on the street.

You must only put your sacks on the street for collection on the days and at the times set out above.

Call your local Street Environment Officer to talk about waste collection or street cleansing, on 020 7606 3110 or contact us using the online form .

If you do not comply with these requirements you could be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of up to £60.

City residents can use the Tower Hamlets Reuse and Recycle Centre at Yabsley Street on the Isle of Dogs:

Requirements

City of London residents must bring BOTH proof of ID (drivers licence) and proof of residence (council tax bill).

Commercial waste is prohibited. It is an offence to leave commercial waste at this site and in doing so you risk a fine or prosecution.
