Supported and sheltered housing

The aim of the Supported Housing Team is to develop and sustain people's capacity to live independently in their accommodation.

This could be through such things as enabling them to access their correct benefit entitlement, ensuring they have the required skills to maintain a tenancy or accessing a community alarm service. This support is provided in a variety of ways - from a daily wellbeing check for people living in our sheltered accommodation, to short home visits from a Tenancy Support Officer. The level of support provided depends on the level of need. Appropriate housing-related support can help prevent problems which can often lead to hospitalisation, institutional care or homelessness. It can also help with the smooth transition to independent living for those leaving institutional environments.

Supported housing in the City of London

The Supported Housing Team provides housing-related support for about 250 vulnerable people across all our estates. We work with externally contracted organisations and staff in Community & Children's Services to provide support to the following groups:

  • former rough sleepers
  • people with mental health problems
  • people with a physical or sensory disability
  • people with a learning disability
  • older people in sheltered accommodation.

Support is provided through the following services:

Middle Street - single homeless (former rough sleeper) project in the square mile. Managed by Providence Row Housing Association.

Tudor Rose Court - sheltered accommodation in the square mile for people aged 60 and over, managed by Hanover.

City of London Tenancy Sustainment Partnership - the City of London's in-house floating support service, providing housing-related support to people in their homes across all our estates.

Mais House, Isleden House and Harman Close - sheltered accommodation in Lewisham, Islington and Southwark for people aged 60 and over. Owned and managed by the City of London.

City of London Almshouses - sheltered accommodation in Lambeth for people aged 55 and over who are on a low income.
