Homelessness Strategy

The Homelessness Act 2002 requires each local authority in England to publish a homeless strategy​. The legislation is clear on how a homelessness strategy should be developed.

A thorough review of homelessness in the City of London was carried out, which lead to the development of our Homelessness Strategy for 2016-2019.

Temporary Accommodation Allocation Policy

This provides a framework for the fair allocation of temporary accommodation provided by the City of London Corporation under Part VII of the Housing Act 1996:

Homelessness facts and figures

Each local authority in England has to return quarterly homelessness statistics to the Department of Communities and Local Government, called the P1E quarterly return. Statistics for all local authorities, including the City of London can be found on the GOV UK website:

Rough sleeping facts and figures

The Department of Communities and Local Government also compiles statistics on estimated and actual numbers of rough sleepers in each local authority area. These can be found on the GOV UK website:

No First Night Out - help for single homeless people

This is a tri-borough 18 month project, working across the City of London and the London Boroughs of Hackney and Tower Hamlets. A new approach is being piloted to prevent individuals from rough sleeping for the first time and ensuring those already rough sleeping are able to access housing in the area where they have a local connection.
