Accessible computers

All our libraries have at least one computer work station offering wheelchair access and is equipped with Magic screen magnification and Jaws text to speech software for people with sight difficulties:

  • Screen magnifier (Zoomtext) - use this to make the words and pictures on the screen as large as you want.
  • Text to speech software (Jaws) - use this with the headphones to have words spelt out loud and the sentences or pages you have written read back to you. This software can be used with the word processing application on this PC. You will be able to hear what you are typing as you do your work through a screen voice. When you are using the internet you can have the text on the screen read out loud.
