Public Realm enhancement strategies
The City of London Corporation has developed strategies for areas of the City to improve the streets and public spaces. The strategies are based on the need for future sustainable growth. They have been published following consultation with local residents and City workers and reflect the City Corporation's and Mayor of London's planning and transportation policies.

Aldgate and Tower area enhancement strategy PDF (32MB)

PDF documentDate submitted: 13/01/2020The main objective of the Chancery Lane Area Enhancement Scheme was to create a high-quality street environment that made the area more pleasant and easy to use for workers, residents and visitors to the area. Cycling and walking were made more convenient as public highways and open spaces were better connected and easier to use through a series of street enhancements. These improvements built on the unique character of the Chancery Lane area as the City’s legal quarter, emphasising its rich architectural and cultural heritage, encouraging its growing retail and leisure facilities.

Culture Mile Look and Feel strategy PDF (8MB)
PDF documentDate submitted: 8/01/2020Culture Mile is an initiative, which aims to transform the north-west corner of the Square Mile. It is led by a partnership of the City of London Corporation, the Barbican, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, London Symphony Orchestra and Museum of London. The 'Look and Feel' public realm strategy, developed with Fluid, aims to improve way-finding, signage and public spaces across the Culture Mile to provide a fitting welcome and enhanced environment for visitors to the cultural institutions in the area and animate the public realm, so it becomes destination itself. The strategy sets out aspirations for the transformation of this area into a major cultural and creative destination.
Culture Mile Public Realm Identity guidelines PDF (30MB)
PDF documentDate submitted: 8/01/2020The Culture Mile Public Realm Identity Guidelines, developed with Growth Industry and Wolfstrome Design, delivers guidance and principles for the expression of the Culture Mile brand in the public realm. The report sets out principles for animating and announcing the area to visitors, identifies a colour palette, materials and locations for expressing the brand for maximum impact. Future projects in Culture Mile will all refer to these guidelines.
