Cadent are undertaking works in Gracechurch Street to replace the gas main

Cadent have decided that a full replacement of the gas main at Gracechurch Street by London Bridge is required. Replacing the old, failing gas main will be undertaken in phases through to September 2018.

The current phase requires

  • Gracechurch Street and London Bridge closed northbound
  • Cannon Street and Eastcheap closed eastbound
  • King William Street closed southbound from Bank Junction to London Bridge

Download the diversion map (3MB) for more details.

This phase is expected to continue until mid July 2018.

A works embargo has been put in place on all other major streets in the area, the partial reopening of Bank Junction will remain in place and we continue to work with TfL on traffic signal timings in the area.

You can find out current traffic information on the TfL traffic status page or check the Transport for London news twitter account @TfLTrafficNews to find out the latest information about the bus routes go to the TfL bus status page or check the Transport for London bus alerts twitter account @TfLBusAlerts.

Cadent Gas have carried out a letter drop to the area affected by these works.

Whilst the gas works are on the TfL road network, the City’s network may also be affected with possible delays.

To help drivers navigate the City streets while these works are in progress there has been a partial reopening of Bank Junction eastbound from Queen Victoria Street. All other restrictions at Bank remain in place between the  hours of 7am-7pm Monday to Friday. There will be signage in place to direct traffic as appropriate and measures have been put in place to help mitigate any safety risks that might result from introducing more traffic at Bank Junction.

The reopening of Queen Victoria Street to allow east bound traffic through Bank Junction is a temporary measure only. The experimental Bank on Safety Scheme will resume on completion of these works.

Safety continues to be a number one priority and all drivers, cyclists and pedestrians using Bank Junction are asked to take extra care and for drivers to avoid the area if at all possible.

Updates on progress with the emergency gas works will be provided in future bulletins and via social media.
