Improving the City's streets

The Time Banding Scheme applies to both residential and commercial bagged waste (including recycling and loose cardboard) collections across the City.

All businesses and residents are restricted from putting out waste and recycling sacks/bags and loose cardboard for collection on the public highway and footpaths during certain hours every day the week.

Times Restrictions Details
8am to 6pm No bags Restrictions apply to both businesses and residents
6pm to 12am 2 hour restrictions Commercial waste to be collected within 2 hours.
Residential waste should be placed for collection
between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.
12am to 8am No restrictions Any bagged/loose waste must be cleared by 8am.

You will need to arrange with your waste carrier what times are best suitable for them to collect your waste. There are a number of commercial waste carriers who are supporting the scheme.

The Scheme does not affect those residents and businesses who use wheelie bins or internal compactors to store and dispose of their waste.

The initiative is designed to significantly improve the quality of the street scene and environment of the City of London for businesses, visitors and residents. Restricting the periods when bagged and loose waste is on the street will reduce the opportunity for loose rubbish to be added to the bagged waste. This should lessen the amount of loose food waste on the street, reducing a food source for vermin. The scheme will also reduce the number of obstructions on the footways, increasing access and improving safety for pedestrians and other users.
