Active City Business Network

The City Corporation is developing better pedestrian and cycling facilities to provide a safe environment for City workers.

Through the Active City Business Network the City of London Road Danger Reduction Team offers training and encouragement for workers to enjoy a safer more active journey to work.

Encouraging staff to walk and cycle to work has great benefit for personal health and the environment:

  • Improves staff fitness and health
  • Improves the City's air quality
  • Reduces congestion
  • Improves punctuality
  • Improves productivity
  • Makes safer streets for everyone

How the team can help

  • Cycle Skills training
  • Walk Doctors – encouraging walking for health
  • Dr Bike maintenance – servicing for brakes, gears and cables
  • Conducted rides around the City
  • A Road Danger Reduction Show
  • Events, publications and a networking forum

Women's City Cycling Network

The Team is also developing a Women's Cycle Network (WCCN) to support and encourage women to cycle to work. Women cyclists in the City represent less than a quarter of commuters but are over-represented in road casualties.

Initiatives for the network include

  • Cycle Skills training to improve confidence
  • Conducted family rides at weekends in the City
  • Discounts from local cycle shops
  • Buddy rides
  • Consultation for employers on creating better cycle facilities
  • Conferences, breakfast briefing, evening networking events
