We own and maintain five bridges:

  • Blackfriars Bridge
  • London Bridge
  • Millennium Bridge
  • Southwark Bridge
  • Tower Bridges

If you have an enquiry about one of our bridges or wish to report a defect you can contact our engineering team, part of the District Surveyors Office, by emailing bridges@cityoflondon.gov.uk or calling our Contact Centre on 020 7606 3030.

Abnormal loads

You need an approval from us for any abnormal load moving through the City of London. We will check your proposed route for low bridges, underground structures, width restrictions, road closures, one way systems and street works.

You need to give us at least three working days notice of your proposals.

You can apply for abnormal load approval and submit your route to us online or by emailing bridges@cityoflondon.gov.uk

Technical approval for highway structures

We have a duty to ensure that any structure, new, existing or temporary, that spans across the highway is fit for purpose.

If you are looking to undertake works that could affect the support of the highway, such as basement digging, you will need a technical approval.
