Obstructions

Pavement obstructions are an inconvenience and potential hazard for pedestrians. We endeavour to keep pavements clear at all times. Obstruction can be caused by:

  • Parking on pavements: the London-wide ban on pavement parking applies throughout the City of London. Our Civil Enforcement Officers enforce the ban. You can report pavement parking via our Parking Helpline 020 7332 3310
  • Scaffolding/Hoarding: we license all scaffolding or hoarding on the public highway. You can apply for a licence by contacting us at highways.management@cityoflondon.gov.uk or by calling our Contact Centre on 020 7606 3030.
  • Tables and Chairs: cafes and restaurants require a licence to place tables and chairs on the pavement. You can find more information about Tables and Chairs and how to apply here.
  • Sign boards: inconsiderate businesses sometimes obstruct pavements with illegal advertising boards. Our Cleansing Services will arrange the removal of such boards and you can report specific problems by ringing our Contact Centre on 020 7606 3030.

All footways are inspected at least once a month. If you find a problem please either email us at highways.management@cityoflondon.gov.uk or ring our Contact Centre on 020 7606 3030.
