The City of London Corporation is working with the London Borough of Tower Hamlets to deliver a comprehensive package of improvements to Petticoat Lane Market, one of London's iconic markets and the adjacent Middlesex Street area, including:

  • Operation of the market (eg types of stall rig, trader parking, hours, cleansing regime)
  • Facilities for the market and its customers (electricity and water supply for the stalls, public toilets, seating)
  • Public realm works along the street (greening, planting, wayfinding and public art)

Consultants are working on two projects, one a feasibility study exploring options to enhance the public realm in Middlesex Street and improving the layout and operation of the Market. The second will work on creating a new brand and visual identity for Petticoat Lane Market that reflects the partners’ and local people’s aspirations.

There will be opportunities for local residents, traders and businesses to engage with the project team in developing this work.

The costs will be shared evenly between LB Tower Hamlets and the City Corporation.

For more information, please email the City Public Realm Team or sign up to receive updates directly to your email.
