The City of London is introducing an e-taxi recharging bay in Noble Street on an experimental basis.

The Mayor of London requires new licensed taxis to be ‘zero emission capable’ which means that the new vehicles are either battery powered or battery/petrol hybrids. Transport for London is working in partnership with councils to install recharging points for e-taxis across London. The City Corporation has identified Noble Street as a suitable location for a recharging point where there is an existing taxi parking place where taxi drivers can park during the day for a break of 30 minutes.

The recharging point will take up one taxi parking bay and the recharging bay will require a second bay. The maximum stay will be two hours with no return to the bay within one hour. The City Corporation has decided to introduce the recharging facility using experimental powers to monitor its operation before deciding to make it permanent. Comments on the operation of this change are welcome for six months from its introduction on 8 July 2019.
