Masterplan of the highway

An image of the new highway layout. The Aldgate gyratory was a traffic dominated one-way street system that was difficult to navigate for all road users.

The highway changes have resulted in:

  • Improved cycling facilities on Aldgate High Street, Middlesex Street and St Botolph Street, including semi-segregated cycle lanes and seven new advanced stop lines
  • Provision for an improved north/south cycle link via Jewry Street through the new public space
  • Relocation of bus stops in the area and changed bus routes to reflect the new street layout
  • Provision for pedestrian crossings that support desire lines
  • Improved accessibility throughout the scheme
