Mixed recycling

You can tie your clear recycling sack and place it in front of your door for collection Tuesday and Friday before 12.30pm. Your collection will take place after this time.

A roll of clear recycling sacks is delivered to you every six months. If you need recycling sacks between deliveries you can collect them from the Portsoken Health and Community Centre (Green Box), 14-16 Little Somerset Street or contact the City of London Contact Centre on 020 7606 3110.

Additionally, recycling bins are located in the bin area in front of Guinness Court entrance three. The bins will normally have a green lid and the Household Recycling icon. Download the Mansell Street Estate recycling map (below) for location.​

More items you can recycle

Food waste

Mansell Street Estate residents are provided with a kitchen caddy and compostable liners to contain food waste. All types of food can be included in your food waste collection, cooked or uncooked, egg shells, bones, tea bags and coffee grounds.

Put your caddy containing the tied liner in front of your door that will be collected Tuesday and Friday at the same time as your refuse and recycling sacks.

If you do not have a kitchen caddy or need more compostable liners you can collect them at the Portsoken Health and Community Centre (Green Box), 14-16 Little Somerset Street or contact the City of London Contact Centre on 020 7606 3110.

Small electrical and electronic items

You can recycle them in the grey and pink Small Electrical Items bin in the bin area in front of Guinness Court entrance three. Download the Mansell Street Estate recycling map (below) for location.

Small appliances include:

  • irons
  • microwaves
  • hair dryers
  • kettles
  • electric shavers
  • toasters
  • electric toothbrushes
  • mobile phones
  • table lamps
  • DVD and CD players
  • Walkmans, Discmans, radios
  • laptop or desktop computers, games consoles

Large appliances

Large electrical appliances are collected through the Bulky Waste collection service and sent for reuse or recycling.

Call 020 7606 3110 to arrange a collection or take items to the bulky waste collection point in front of Guinness Court entrance three. Download the Mansell Street Estate recycling map (below) for location on Monday and Wednesday evening. There may be a charge for this service.

Large electrical items include:

  • televisions
  • computer monitors
  • fridges/freezers
  • dish washers
  • ​washing machines
  • tumble dryers
  • electric cookers
  • electric ovens

Note: Televisions, monitors and fridges/freezers are classed as hazardous waste and must not be placed in the recycling bin.

Textiles, clothes and shoes

Put textiles, clothes and shoes in good condition in the Salvation Army collection bank which is located in the bin area in front of Guinness Court entrance three. Download the Mansell Street Estate recycling map (below) for location.

Low energy light bulbs and batteries

You can recycle your low energy light bulbs and batteries in the bins at the Portsoken Health and Community Centre (Green Box), 14-16 Little Somerset Street. Download the Mansell Street Estate recycling map (below) for location. Alternatively, take your batteries and light bulbs to your local supermarket or Robert Dyas store.
