Travel to, and around the City safely
We want your visit to the City to be safe, as much as enjoyable so we have made an easy guide for all of your travel options, considering government advice and TfL guidance.
Travel off-peak - we're ready when you are.
Avoid the morning and afternoon commute by travelling off-peak (avoid 06:30 - 09:30, and between 16:00 - 19:00).
Walking and Cycling
TFL recommends walking or cycling where possible, as do we.
The City has been a keen adopter of TFL's Streetspace for London scheme, making it easier and safer for people to social distance while walking, running or cycling around the City. This includes new speed limits for vehicles, some road closures for vehicles and protected cycle lanes.
There are hundreds of docking stations for Santander cycles around the square mile.
Simply download the Santander Cycles app or go to any docking station terminal with your bank card and touch the screen to get started. There's no need to book, you can hire a Santander Cycle, ride it, then return it to any docking station.
Suburbs to the City walks
Escape the crowds of your local neighbourhood and adventure close to home on a self-guided walk from the suburbs to the City of London.
Embark on walks from suburb locations in Camden, Islington, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Westminster and Lambeth. Each trail will take you along lesser-trodden paths, uncovering centuries of history, art and culture on the way.
Stations to the City
Wherever you're travelling from, discover new routes to the City of London from some of London's major transport hubs. Try walking, cycling or even travelling by boat, while experiencing fantastic views, famous sites and fascinating history.
Travelling on the tube, overground and buses
If you are travelling by tube, overground or bus, we recommend following TfL's Safer Travel Guidance:
- Plan your journey in advance and, where possible, travel when it is quiet
- Wear a face covering over your nose and mouth, unless you are exempt for age, health or accessibility reasons
- Maintain social distancing where possible
- Follow signs, listen to announcements and pay attention to our staff
- Wash your hands before and after your journey
- Carry hand sanitiser or use sanitiser points at stations
- Use contactless or Oyster to pay for your travel
TFL want you to feel confident when travelling around the City, which is why they have introduced extra safety measures at stations and on buses, including UV handrail sanitising units and anti-viral treatments.
Uber Boat by Thames Clippers
An alternative way to travel across London is by river. With routes from Putney to the Tower of London, Battersea to Bankside and Woolwich to Blackfriars via Greenwich, there are many options through Uber Boat by Thames Clippers.
Thames Clippers have been running for over 20 years, and in partnership with Uber, you can now get your river bus tickets via the Uber app.
