Burnham Beeches 500 year Vision

Many of the ancient pollarded trees in Burnham Beeches are 500 years old or older. They are very important for wildlife, especially for a number of rare or threatened species that are associated with them. We are managing the trees to try to keep them alive for as long as possible and creating new pollards which will become the veteran trees of the future. All the objectives, targets, actions and projects listed in our management plan work towards creating a landscape similar to that illustrated above. As it will take 500 years for the new generations of pollards to develop into something like our ancient pollards of today, we have set our long term vision at that time scale.

The full vision can be read in our management plan (PDF, 2.8mb).
