The Green Flag Award

Green Flag Award

The City of London Cemetery and Crematorium at Aldersbrook is one of the largest municipal cemeteries in Europe.  The site is rich in architecture, ecology, geology, horticulture and history, and we have the honour of being the first Cemetery to be awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award which is the national standard for parks and green spaces in England and Wales.

The Green Flag Award was first launched in 1996 to recognise and reward the best green spaces in the country.

The first awards were given in 1997 and, many years later, it continues to provide the high level of quality against which our parks and green spaces are measured. It is also seen as a way of encouraging others to achieve high environmental standards, setting a benchmark of excellence in recreational green areas.

The City of London Cemetery and Crematorium has achieved this award every year since the year 2000.
