In Epping Forest, we encourage children to play and explore the wild space on their doorstep and to use the natural landscape as an ever-changing and stimulating play space as opposed to having formal structured play facilities.

To help children and families engage with the natural aspect of the Forest, we make sure to leave branches and logs in the Forest after lopping so that materials are available for building dens. We also make sure to provide fallen trees near amenity areas for climbing on.

Subscribe to Forest Focus, our quarterly newsletter, for articles each season on things to do in the Forest like den building, climbing, finding and collecting, storytelling, paddling, natural collaging and more - and see our events page to find fun days out organised by us.

Read our Play Policy (193KB) for more information on how we promote play in the Forest.
