Sports licences

​Epping Forest contains an inspiring array of locations for a wide variety of sporting activities.

We welcome applications from community groups, sport clubs, social activity clubs and charities.

If your application involves use of football pitches at Wanstead Flats, please see our football page instead.

Please note, we can only accommodate sports activities in certain locations and that primary consideration will be given to the impact the activity may have on the site's other recreation, heritage and wildlife interests.

Making an application

Application forms must be received at least 6 weeks before the date of the proposed sports activity. Applications received at shorter notice may be declined.

To apply to hold an organised sports event or sports activity in Epping Forest, please complete the appropriate application below.

For events with up to 500 participants, use our Organised Sports Licence Application Form (150KB)

For events with over 500 participants, use our Events Licence Application Form (429KB)

For sports coaching and personal training licences, use our General Licence Application Form (120KB) 

Once you have completed your application form, please return it to us by email.

Please ensure you include a site plan of your proposed location for your sports activity, along with any other additional documentation requested in the application form.

Fees

Please note, in addition to the fees below, a non-refundable £50 application fee also applies to all applications. This is reduced to £25 for non-profit organisations subject to proof.

Commercial fees

Guidelines

Once it's submitted, we'll review your application and give you a decision within ten working days of receiving it.

Please be aware that we may decide to defer approving your application if we require further information, or if the decision around your event warrants special attention.

Cancellations

If you choose to cancel your event, we will refund you on the following sliding scale according to the period of notice given. For full details of our cancellation policy, please see Events policy - part two (189KB).

We strongly advise taking out separate event insurance to help with costs in the event of an unavoidable cancellation.
