Introduction

Ambresbury Bank is one of two Iron Age earthworks in Epping Forest and is a Scheduled Monument. It is thought to have been built around 500 BC and, occupying one of the highest points in the Forest, is thought to have been a hill fort.

Long Running is an open area of former heathland and runs alongside the camp for half a mile. It's often covered with heather, sedge and purple moorgrass and makes for a pleasant walk on sunny days.
