Grassland gives way to woods left and right, and a path winds through the centre

Hatch Forest is a broad, winding woodland with occasional, secluded clearings. Tucked away in Woodford, it connects Highams Park with Barn Hoppitt and the forest around Chingford.

Things to do in Hatch Forest and Whitehall Plain

  • Explore the Forest on foot, by bike, on horseback or with your dog
  • Follow the River Ching downstream to Highams Park Lake
  • Pack a picnic and enjoy lunch at Whitehall Plain
  • Bring your binoculars for a spot of bird-watching
  • Be very, very quiet and try to catch a glimpse of the deer which roam Hatch Forest!

If picnicking in the Forest, please take care not to litter. Please note too that barbecues are prohibited under our byelaws. Our byelaws can be enforced by fine or prosecution.
